Kerala rains: Yellow alert for five districts on June 10

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for five districts in Kerala due to expected heavy rainfall. While the monsoon has been active, weather patterns are shifting as westerly winds weaken.
Why it matters
Accurate weather reporting is critical for public safety and disaster preparedness in regions prone to monsoon-related flooding.
The southwest monsoon that had been lashing the State for the past few days is likely to remain subdued in the coming days with the weakening of westerly winds. A yellow alert has been issued for five districts including Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram on Wednesday (June 10, 2026) where isolated heavy rain is likely. According to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Interior Karnataka and neighbourhoods between 4.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under the influence of the system, parts of Kerala will receive light spells of rain for the next four days.
The report is a factual summary of meteorological data and government alerts.
