Kerala rains 2026: PWD puts damage to roads, bridges at ₹50 crore

The Public Works Department (PWD) has assessed the damage to roads, bridges, and causeways in the recent rain spell at ₹50 crore. The exact extent of the damage can be assessed only after the floodwaters completely recede in the worst-affected areas, PWD Minister P.K. Basheer said on Tuesday.
The Minister said the roads and bridges damaged by rain, floods, and landslides would be made motorable at the earliest. The Minister, who convened a meeting of officials and District Collectors on Tuesday, directed the officials to take steps to provide speedy assistance to the public.
Funds would not be an issue for emergency works, as the Chief Minister had extended full support for the efforts, he said.
