Kerala HC directs CBI to investigate 14-year-old case of a missing paramilitary force soldier

The Kerala High Court has ordered the CBI to investigate the 14-year-old disappearance of a paramilitary soldier. The court rejected the CBI's jurisdictional objections, emphasizing the state's duty to support those who serve in the armed forces.
Why it matters
This ruling sets a legal precedent for the investigation of missing personnel cases and highlights judicial oversight in military-related matters.
The Kerala High Court recently directed the CBI to investigate a 14-year-old missing case of a soldier, who was a rifleman employed with the Tripura State Rifles, a paramilitary force.
Justice G. Girish issued the order on a petition by the soldier’s father seeking a CBI investigation to find out what happened to his son. The peaceful sleep enjoyed by a civilian was “at the cost of sleepless nights, vigilance and sacrifice of the soldier,” and civil society owed a responsibility to stand by the soldier who protects them if he faced a personal crisis, the court stated.
