Kerala crash: Old video shows accused teen’s Mini Cooper speeding at 220kmph
Police are investigating a fatal car crash in Kerala after an old video surfaced showing the accused teen driving at 220kmph. The accident resulted in the deaths of three young people when a Mini Cooper struck their scooter.
Why it matters
The incident has sparked public outrage regarding road safety and the behavior of young drivers on public highways.
KOCHI: An old Instagram video posted on April 20 this year on the account purportedly belonging to Suhail Sajeev, the 19-year-old arrested over the fatal Mini Cooper crash in Kerala’s Nedumbassery, shows the car’s speedometer climbing to 220kmph on what appears to be a highway, with loud music playing inside the vehicle. The 11.8-second clip shows the speedometer reading 204kmph before the speed continues to rise, reaching 220kmph just as the video ends. The footage has drawn attention following the crash on Sunday in which three young people riding a scooter were killed after the Mini Cooper allegedly rammed into their two-wheeler from behind. The video, reportedly posted on the Instagram account purportedly belonging to Sajeev, dates back several months before the fatal collision. Its location and the circumstances in which it was recorded have not been independently established.
