Kenyans given 14 days to challenge proposed national heroes

The National Heroes Council has opened a 14-day public consultation on people proposed for recognition as Kenya’s national heroes.
The Council has invited members of the public to submit objections or representations against any person they believe does not deserve the honour.
In a notice signed by Council Chairman Jimmy Nuru Ondieki Angwenyi, the Council said the names of the proposed national heroes, together with brief summaries of their achievements, are available on its website.
“Members of the public who are of the opinion that any person proposed to be honoured is not deserving of such recognition are hereby invited to submit any objections and representations,” the notice states.
The Council is established under the Kenya Heroes Act No. 5 of 2014 and is responsible for identifying, selecting and providing for the recognition of national heroes.
