Kenya’s milk processing drops 5 per cent as Kagwe assures public shortage is temporary

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has attributed Kenya’s temporary milk shortage to drought and consumer hoarding, saying milk processing has declined by 5.18 per cent. Speaking in the Senate on Wednesday, Kagwe said the shortage was temporary and expected to ease with the onset of rains. “What I would like to assure the public is that there is a slight shortage of milk, but it is not exaggerated. It's only about 5 per cent less than the usual production,” he said. Kagwe said consumer hoarding had worsened the situation, with some households buying more milk than they normally would after supermarkets restricted customers to two or three packets.
