Kenya's Fintechs Race to Redefine Digital Payday Loans
Kenyan fintech firms are launching earned wage access (EWA) platforms to provide salaried workers with early access to their income. These services aim to reduce reliance on traditional high-interest digital loans by allowing employees to draw against their worked hours.

Kenya's financial technology sector has opened a new battleground as fintech firms roll out earned wage access (EWA) solutions that promise salaried workers quicker access to earned income while reducing reliance on conventional digital loans.
Switchlink Africa says its PEST Salary Advance platform enables employees from partner organisations to access advances ranging from KSh5,000 to KSh100,000, with repayments automatically deducted through payroll over one to three months.
The company says the solution responds to growing demand for convenient and transparent financial products that give employees access to funds when they need them most.
"Today's workforce is increasingly looking for financial solutions that are accessible, transparent and aligned with their day-to-day realities," said Benedict Kotonya, Head of Commercial at Switchlink Africa.
Little, whose MySalary platform was introduced in March 2025, is meanwhile differentiating itself by emphasising consumer protection, security and regulatory compliance as competition in the earned wage access market intensifies.
