Kenya records 19 Mpox deaths amid high Ebola alert

Kenya recorded 1,309 mpox cases and 19 deaths across 40 counties by Saturday , Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has said.
The PS also said this year the country has recorded 469 measles cases and one death, while one circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 case has been reported in Dadaab, Garissa c ounty.
“We remain on high alert for Ebola at points of entry and for water- and vector-borne diseases,” Muthoni said , stressing that the m inistry is prioriti s ing county preparedness, immunisation, community engagement, and protection of health workers.
She called for coordinated action to advance preparations for the Kenya Public Health International Conference 2026 (Kephic) , strengthen disease outbreak control and enhance preparedness for anticipated El Niño-related health risks.
