PETALING JAYA: Police station chiefs in Kelantan are now required to make one drug-related arrest daily, as part of the state contingent's new strategy to combat drug abuse.
Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat said the new directive came into effect on July 15 and was introduced after a decline in such arrests despite ramped-up drug enforcement efforts.
Yusoff said the number of drug cases in the state dropped by 13% in the first half of the year to 13,957, from 15,051 in the same period last year.
Drug-related arrests also went down by 10% to 14,640 compared with 16,182 in the same period of 2025, Bernama reported.
