KCL: Imran sparkles as Titans emerge champions in a gripping finale
The Thrissur Titans secured their maiden Kerala Cricket League title by defeating the Calicut Globstars in a closely contested final. Captain M.S. Akhil led the team to victory with a crucial cameo after Ahammed Imran's impressive 69-run knock.
Why it matters
This victory marks a significant milestone for the Thrissur Titans in the inaugural or early stages of the KCL, highlighting the growth of regional cricket leagues in India.
Thrissur Titans overcame a stutter to beat a resilient Calicut Globstars by four wickets and win its maiden KCL title at the Sports Hub Greenfield Stadium in a final which started on Saturday and ended in the wee hours of Sunday.
Captain M.S. Akhil slammed Ibnul Afthaf over the deep square-leg fence to seal Titans’ triumph in the final over. Titans nearly messed up the chase and it needed a cameo from Akhil (19 n.o., 11b, 1x4, 1x6) to take them home.
After restricting Globstars to a below-par total of 167 for nine, Titans were cruising when Ahammed Imran (69, 49b, 7x4, 2x6) was going great guns. But Jose Perayil gave Globstars a big boost when he dismissed both Imran and Sanjeev Satheesan (29) in the 16th over.
