The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on church leaders and religious institutions across the country to prioritize self-reliance and unity to foster sustainable development and eliminate external dependency.

Delivering his sermon during a farewell service at Emmanuel Cathedral in Mvara, Arua City, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the urgency of financial independence for religious institutions, warning that continuous reliance on foreign aid compromises autonomy.

“Income-generating projects are the way to go if we are to sustain the church altogether. We cannot depend on foreign aid; we must learn to sustain ourselves. If you are dependent, you will be a slave to the one who gives aid all the time,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

Highlighting ongoing self-reliance initiatives in the region, the Archbishop commended local development projects, including the commissioning of a church in Ediofe and infrastructure improvements at Koboko.
