KAZA Launches Initiative to Support Nature

The Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) has launched an initiative to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) operating in nature-based tourism across Southern Africa. The Joint Action on Regenerative Nature-Based Tourism (R-NBT) was launched at a regional stakeholder roundtable in Maun, Botswana, with a focus on expanding opportunities for tourism businesses across the KAZA landscape. The initiative will support MSMEs with access to finance, business development services, market opportunities and capacity building, with particular attention to businesses led by women, young people and communities living around protected areas. The programme aims to increase tourism’s contribution to local economies while ensuring communities benefit directly from conservation and nature-based tourism activities. Advertisement Botswana’s Minister of Environment and Tourism, Wynter Boipuso Mmolotsi, represented by Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary Charles Kabo Mojalemotho, said regenerative tourism should ensure that tourism growth strengthens the natural environment and communities that depend on it.
