Why it matters
The announcement highlights the increasing focus on mental health and wellness within the high-pressure K-pop and global music industry.
Just a day before the Head in the Clouds Music & Arts Festival takes over the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, a member of the headlining pop group Katseye has announced she is taking a hiatus from performing. Sophia Laforteza announced on Instagram on Friday that she'll be stepping away to take care of her mental health. "It truly breaks my heart to have to miss out on a lot," she wrote in an Instagram story. "You know how much I love being on stage, performing, and sharing these moments with you. Making this decision wasn't easy, but I'm learning that health has to come first. I'm realizing that if I don't take care of my mind and body now, I won't be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long."
