Kasolo says 2031 transition should ensure political continuity

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Affairs) Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo has said Ugandans calling for a peaceful transfer of power will witness what he described as a smooth transition in 2031, while urging political actors to prioritise cooperation and national development.

Mr Kasolo made the remarks on Sunday at a thanksgiving ceremony in Kasaali Town Council, Kyotera District, held to celebrate his appointment to Cabinet and victory in the recent parliamentary elections.

Addressing hundreds of supporters and guests, including diplomats, the minister said the opposition had repeatedly called for a peaceful transition of power and that, in his view, such a transition would take place in 2031 under first son and military chief Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

“The opposition has on many occasions called for a peaceful transition in the country’s governance. Ugandans will witness this transition in 2031, and government business will continue without disruption,” Mr Kasolo said.
