Karua sues Uganda over deportation, seeks return to defend Besigye

Kenyan Senior Counsel Martha Karua has sued the government of Uganda over her deportation and the decision to declare her persona non grata, saying the action has interfered with her ability to represent jailed opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye in his ongoing treason trial.

Ms Karua, who is jointly suing the Attorney General with the Uganda Law Society (ULS), is challenging the decision made by the Principal Immigration Officer at Entebbe International Airport on June 22, 2026, when she was denied entry into Uganda.
