Karnataka to explore legal options to challenge High Court verdict striking down reservation enhancement

The Karnataka government is considering legal challenges after the state High Court struck down a law increasing reservation quotas for SC and ST communities. State officials are criticizing the previous administration and the Central government for failing to provide a constitutional foundation for the policy.
Why it matters
The legal battle over reservation quotas significantly impacts social equity policies and political stability in the Indian state of Karnataka.
Following the Karnataka High Court striking down the enhancement of reservation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities in the State, Congress leaders said the government is exploring legal options to challenge the order and safeguard ongoing recruitment and education admissions. The leaders have also questioned the Central government’s reluctance to include the law in the Ninth Schedule.
