The Minister for Medical Education and Yadgir district in-charge to review drought, Sharan Prakash Patil, directed officials from Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) and other departments to urgently tackle the drought situation and drinking water crisis across both rural and urban areas of the district.
Dr. Patil issued these directives while chairing a drought review meeting in Yadgir on August 5.
This was his maiden visit to the district since being tasked by Karnataka’s Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to assess the drought situation on the ground.
Reviewing facts and figures related to the crisis, Dr Patil directed Revenue and Agriculture Department officials to submit a comprehensive report on crop damage caused by prolonged dry spells so the district administration could initiate relief measures immediately.
