Karnataka forms three committees led by retired DGPs to recommend police reforms in two months

Karnataka’s Home Department has formed three committees led by retired Director Generals of Police (DGPs) to recommend specific police reforms over the next two months.

Former police chief R.K. Dutta and retired DGPs M.N. Reddi and Kamal Pant will lead these committees, while serving officers will be their members.

Mr. Dutta will lead a committee to comprehensively review police services and recommend measures to make them more efficient, prompt, transparent, citizen-friendly and technology-driven, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Monday.

The committee will examine various services provided by the police, including registration of FIRs, receipt of complaints, functioning of police stations, emergency services, reporting of lost property, cybercrime complaints, permissions and certificates. It will also recommend key performance indicators (KPIs) and a regular review mechanism to assess the quality of police services.
