Karnataka CM Shivakumar, Congress legislators to join Delhi protest against SIR on Oct. 12

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Congress legislators are traveling to New Delhi to protest against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision exercise. The party alleges irregularities in electoral rolls and is demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
Why it matters
The protest highlights ongoing political friction regarding the integrity of electoral processes and the relationship between state-level opposition and central government institutions.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and ruling Congress legislators from Karnataka will be in New Delhi on Monday (October 12, 2026) to participate in the All India Congress Committee’s protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Sunday (October 11, 2026), Mr Shivakumar said the Congress would hold its own protest against the SIR exercise and demand the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.
Asked whether the Congress was supporting the protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), he said the party was taking its own course of action, while some INDIA bloc allies had participated in the other protest.
