The Karingachira-Thiruvankulam stretch of National Highway 85 will be widened to 14 metres, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob has said.

This will help facilitate free left turns at the bottlenecked Thiruvankulam Junction. In addition, a 20-metre-wide roundabout will be built at the junction to enable the smooth flow of vehicles in different directions without traffic signals, he said at a meeting of officials of the National Highways Authority of India and other departments concerned on Thursday.

Steps will also be taken to construct the Chitrapuzha-Mamala Bund Road, Mr. Jacob said in a release.
