Kanniyakumari Collector M. Prathap has appealed to farmers to insure their horticulture crops under the crop insurance scheme through e-service centres, Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies, and nationalised banks for the current kuruvai season.
According to a press release, the southwest monsoon is expected to remain below normal due to the El Nino phenomenon, which could affect kuruvai and rain-fed agriculture crops. To safeguard the livelihood of farmers, notifications have been made under the Pradhan Mantri crop insurance scheme for kuruvai crops such as banana and tapioca.
