Urging the disbursement of crop insurance compensation for paddy crop affected by drought last year, and demanding drought relief for damaged paddy, groundnut, chillies, and other crops, over 30 farmers from Kamuthi region submitted a petition at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

Muthuramalingam, district secretary, Coordination Committee of All Tamil Nadu Farmers Associations, who led the farrners, said “During the last samba season, paddy and other crops suffered due to poor northeast monsoon, resulting in massive financial losses for farmers.”

It had been several months since the Agriculture, Revenue, and Statistics departments, along with the insurance company, conducted crop cutting surveys in revenue villages of the affected crops. However, the insurance company continued to delay disbursal of compensation to farmers enrolled in the samba paddy crop insurance scheme.
