Kampala businessman gets five years for Shs21m office theft

City Hall Court has sentenced businessman Bashir Bakora to five years in prison for breaking into the offices of VNG International (U) Ltd in Ntinda and stealing property worth more than Shs21 million.

Bakora was convicted of office breaking and theft after Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu found that the prosecution had proved its case against him beyond reasonable doubt.

His two co-accused, David Moses Ogwang and Tonny Ongin, who were working as security guards with SGA Security, were acquitted after the court found there was insufficient evidence linking them to the break-in.

The offences were committed between January 18 and 19, 2026, during an election public holiday when the company’s offices were closed but security guards remained on duty.
