Police in Kalangala District have detained a 50-year-old fisherman accused of killing his wife following a domestic dispute reportedly linked to childlessness and allegations of adultery.
Ibrahim Nsereko, a fisherman at Kussu landing site on Buyovu Island in Bufumira Sub-county, is accused of killing his wife, Juliet Kinyoyozi, 38, a farmer with whom he had lived for about three years.
Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said Nsereko was arrested on a murder charge and remains in custody as investigations continue.
Mr Kasirye said preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had repeatedly disagreed over their failure to have a child.
“It is said that this man had, from time to time, been having misunderstandings with his wife resulting from a man demanding the wife to give birth to his child,” he said.
Police also suspect that allegations that Ms Kinyoyozi was having an affair contributed to the escalating conflict.
