Junior doctors at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad staged a protest to demand urgent repairs to non-functional medical equipment and infrastructure improvements. The doctors claim that the lack of essential facilities, such as ventilators and diagnostic machines, is severely hindering patient care.
Why it matters
The protest underscores critical infrastructure gaps in public healthcare systems and the resulting impact on clinical training and patient safety.
Junior doctors staged a protest at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad on Monday, October 12, 2026, demanding improvements in hospital infrastructure and the repair of non-functional medical equipment that they said has been affecting patient care and clinical training.
N. Chandrakanth Reddy, president of the Osmania Medical College Junior Doctors Association (OMC JUDA), said several essential facilities and diagnostic machines at the hospital were deficient or non-functional. "Facilities ranging from ventilators to the catheterisation laboratory are deficient. Several diagnostic facilities and machines, including X-ray and endoscopy equipment, have not been working for months," he said.
The protest was held at the hospital from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mr. Reddy said the junior doctors were prepared to intensify the agitation in the coming days if the authorities failed to respond to their demands.
