Journalists to observe Demands Day on October 2

Working journalists will observe a “Demands Day” on October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, following a call given by the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), according to a joint statement issued by APUWJ Vijayawada unit president Chava Ravi and secretary Daram Venkateswara Rao, and Press Club president Kanchala Jayaraj and secretary Dasari Nagaraju.
A rally will begin from the Press Club at 10.30 a.m. on October 2 and proceed to the Gandhi statue, where a representation will be submitted.
The organisations demanded the immediate constitution of a Media Commission and enactment of a special Central law for journalists’ safety. They also sought restoration of statutory rights and protections earlier available to working journalists.
