Why it matters
This initiative directly impacts rural economic stability and livelihood security for vulnerable populations in India.
A job card mela has been launched across all 255 gram panchayats in Mysuru district to strengthen and expand the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), aimed at providing employment security to rural households.
Following directions from the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, the Mysuru Zilla Panchayat has launched the campaign to create awareness about the benefits of the scheme.
The campaign focuses on strengthening rural livelihoods by prioritising water conservation, groundwater recharge, drought management and sustainable livelihood opportunities, besides promoting infrastructure development.
It also seeks to generate employment opportunities within villages and reduce migration to urban areas.
As part of the campaign, officials will visit households to register employment demands. Rozgar Guarantee Cards will be issued to eligible vulnerable families that have not yet registered under the scheme.
