Eight engineering students from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) scored 370 points on August 15, 2026, to secure the top position in the online leaderboard for the Cars4Mars African Rover Challenge Launch Stage Final.

Operating as Team Vulcan, the multidisciplinary group brought together undergraduate talent from mechatronics, telecommunications, aerospace, mechanical, and electrical engineering streams. The students competed against 39 other institutions across the continent that had qualified for the evaluation phase.

The competition required participants to design and build a functional, wireless-controlled robotic vehicle capable of operating independently without external internet access. Organizers awarded points based on submitted project strategy reports, final technical documentation, and a video demonstration detailing the physical build and system performance.
