Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s mother, Roopi Soren, passed away after a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Ranchi. CM Soren shared the news of her sad demise in a post on his social media account X on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).
“After Baba left, Ma was my greatest shelter. Today, even that shelter has merged into the lap of nature,” Mr. Soren wrote on X.
Married to former Chief Minister late Shibu Soren on January 1, 1962, Roopi was admitted to a Hill View Hospital & Research Centre on September 18, 2026, after she complained of breathing difficulties and on Wednesday (October 7, 2026), she was put on ventilator support.
Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Babulal Marandi, expressed deep grief over her death.
