Antisemitic and racist scenes were filmed Tuesday evening in Madrid, shortly before the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Inter Milan. Individuals described as Real Madrid ultras were seen chanting slogans targeting Jews and Muslims near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
In videos circulating on social media, several supporters can be heard chanting threats to hit any Jews they encounter, before declaring that Spain is a “Christian” country and not a “Muslim” one. Nazi salutes were also seen in some of the footage.
Other footage showed hooded men burning Moroccan flags as well as portraits of the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the King of Morocco Mohammed VI. The incidents come amid heightened tensions over Ceuta following a large influx of migrants from Morocco in late July.
