Jets, Devils closing in on Hellebuyck trade with ‘some important details to iron out’

The Winnipeg Jets have traded goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils in a multi-player deal involving prospects and draft picks. The trade aims to reshape the Jets' roster while addressing the Devils' goaltending needs.
Why it matters
Significant roster changes in professional sports impact team competitiveness and long-term strategic planning.
The Connor Hellebuyck saga is at an end in Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Jets have traded the disgruntled netminder to the New Jersey Devils for a package made up of six pieces. Prospect Alexander Command, forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goaltender Nico Daws, a 2029 second-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick are all going back to Winnipeg in the deal. Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff thanked Hellebuyck for his time with the team as he spoke Friday and said he wished a deal had been completed several months ago, but chalked it up to the unique difficulties of moving a goaltender. Command, 18, was the Devils’ first-round pick at this past June’s draft. Taken with the 12th overall selection, the Stockholm native is currently playing in the Swedish Elite League with Orebro HK.
