Jason Momoa's water firm says 6m bottles removed; hotel refillers do 500/hour
Jason Momoa's water brand, Mananalu, has pivoted to an on-site bottling model to eliminate single-use plastics. By installing purification and bottling systems in hotels, the company claims to reduce carbon emissions by 95 percent.
Why it matters
This model demonstrates a scalable circular economy solution for the hospitality industry to reduce plastic waste and logistics-related carbon footprints.
Jason Momoa launched Mananalu in 2019 with a clear goal: challenge the bottled-water industry to move away from single-use plastic. The Hawaiian water brand began with aluminium bottles and a “buy one, remove one” programme that funded the removal of plastic bottles from the ocean. According to PR Newswire, that effort has resulted in more than 6 million plastic bottles being extracted from the ocean.
