Japan warns of flood and landslides around Tokyo as powerful typhoon approaches

The Japan Meteorological Agency updated its guidance on the typhoon at 20:45 local time (12:45 BST).

The centre of Typhoon Dujuan is still offshore to the east of the Izu islands.

Sustained wind speeds are 143km/h (89mph), with gusts of 198km/h, although the strongest winds remain offshore.

Across southern and eastern Honshu there could still be sustained wind speeds of 126km/h with higher gusts.

The typhoon will not make direct landfall but there is some very heavy rain on its leading edge that has already pushed into south-eastern Honshu.

Parts of Chiba prefecture have seen more than 500mm of rain in the last two days. Oshima Town, south-west of Tokyo, recorded 800mm.
