Japan To Help Ethiopia Build Better Cities Outside Addis Ababa
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a 36-month agreement with Ethiopia to improve urban planning in secondary cities. The project aims to reduce population concentration in Addis Ababa by training local officials in smart city development and data management.

Japan will help Ethiopia strengthen urban planning in secondary cities under a new 36-month technical co-operation project aimed at easing the concentration of population and development in Addis Ababa.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure signed the Record of Discussions for the project, titled “Project for Capacity Building in Urban Planning and Urbanization”, in Addis Ababa on August 19.
State Minister Fenta Dejen signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry, while Hiroyuki Yakushi, chief representative of JICA’s Ethiopia office, signed for the Japanese agency.
