AMRITSAR: In a sudden and unexpected move, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has been removed from his post, with deputy inspector general (DIG), Border Range, Amritsar, Harmanbir Singh Gill—who himself recently assumed charge—being given additional charge as CP, Amritsar.The reason behind the abrupt reshuffle is not immediately clear. However, sources said a controversial statement or decision allegedly made by Bhullar may have prompted the government to take the step.The transfer orders, issued on August 7 by Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, principal secretary to the Government of Punjab, Department of Home Affairs, stated that Bhullar would report to the office of the DGP until further orders.
