Why it matters
Public criticism of high-profile athletes and managers reflects the intense pressure and scrutiny within professional football.
Jamie Carragher has labelled Bruno Fernandes ' comments on Michael Carrick 's tactics as "disgraceful" after Manchester United descended into crisis after a 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como.
Cesc Fabregas' side swept past Carrick's United with Fernandes visibly upset on the pitch before an outburst at his side's inability to press .
"It's a decision from the staff to not press man to man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball, wait for them," Fernandes said. "But sometimes when you give space to these teams they get confidence."
Th 32-year-old then made a pointed remark that United should have "more brave under pressure," with the heavy defeat now leaving them 20th in the table after three rounds of fixtures in the league phase and seven games without a win in all competitions.
