Jürgen Klopp appointed new Germany head coach

Jürgen Klopp has been appointed as the new head coach of the German national football team, signing a contract that runs through 2030. He takes over following the team's disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Why it matters
Klopp is a highly decorated manager whose appointment is expected to significantly impact the future performance and morale of the German national team.
The 59-year-old has signed an initial four-year contract, beginning on 15 August 2026 and running through to 2030, taking over following Germany's shock round of 32 exit to Paraguay at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and Nagelsmann's subsequent departure.
"The national team can unite us Germans better than anything else. That's what makes this role so special for me," said Klopp, who stepped down as Liverpool coach in May 2024 before joining Red Bull GmbH as Head of Global Soccer in January 2025.
"I'm grateful for everything I got to experience and learn over the last 18 months with Red Bull. Now I'm excited for this special role in German football, which we'll approach with humility and patience, developing a team that fights for each other, enjoys playing football and that the people in our country can fully get behind."
