J&K Waqf chairperson Andrabi condemns assault on Kashmiri youth in Delhi

J&K Waqf Board chairperson Syed Darakhshan Andrabi has condemned an alleged assault on a Kashmiri youth in Delhi by Congress workers. The incident reportedly occurred after the youth expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sparking protests in Srinagar.
Why it matters
The incident highlights rising political tensions and the potential for inter-regional friction between political factions in India.
J&K Waqf Board chairperson Syed Darakhshan Andrabi on Friday (October 9, 2026) condemned the assault on Kashmiri youth allegedly by Congress workers on Thursday (October 8, 2026) over praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and opposing Rahul Gandhi-led street protests.
Ms. Andrabi termed the incident “deeply disturbing” and demanded “an impartial investigation” into the incident. Fahim Nazir from Kashmir on Thursday (October 8, 2026) raised pro-PM slogans.
“Fahim Nazir is a son of Kashmir and a son of India. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of the entire nation. Being his fan or expressing admiration for him is certainly no crime,” said Ms. Andrabi.
She said such an act of brutality was “utterly unacceptable in a democracy”. “No political affiliation gives anyone the licence to take the law into their own hands. Today, it is Fahim Nazir, it could be someone else tomorrow,” she said.
