A European expat has sparked a heated debate online after revealing her ‘disgust’ over Australian friendships, claiming it is the hardest place on Earth to make friends. Italian model Matilde, who goes by Matilde like the Movie to her 75,000 followers, emigrated to Sydney back in 2022 after spending her 20s travelling around the globe. The creator frequently shares content detailing the differences she has observed between Australia and other countries — but one clip in particular has proved controversial. The 31-year-old revealed in the now-viral video that she has lived in four different countries throughout her adult life, but found that “Australia is the hardest country to make friends in.” She began the two-minute video by revealing she had a perception that all Australians were extroverted and “very eager to make friends” but was left surprised when she touched down and found it not to be the case.
