IT Ministry asks CJP’s Dipke to be present for hearing on X account ban

The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has summoned activist Abhijeet Dipke for a hearing regarding the government's blocking of his organization's X account. The move follows ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar and raises concerns about digital censorship under Section 69A of the IT Act.
Why it matters
This case underscores the ongoing tension between the Indian government and digital activists regarding freedom of speech and online platform regulation.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has asked Abhijeet Dipke to be physically present for a hearing on the union government’s blocking of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) account on X, formerly Twitter, a CJP source told The Hindu . The summoning comes even as Mr. Dipke has refused to leave Jantar Mantar, where he has been leading a protest calling for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation since Saturday (June 20, 2026) .
The framing highlights the activist's perspective and emphasizes the 'escalation' of government actions against dissent.
