It is not a case of Jaiswal being treated unfairly, he needs to wait for his opportunity: India batting coach Kotak
Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has defended the exclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal from the ODI team, citing intense competition for spots. He emphasized that Jaiswal must remain patient and continue working hard while noting the value of experienced players like Ravindra Jadeja.
Why it matters
It provides insight into the selection philosophy of the Indian cricket team and the management of young talent versus veteran experience.
If a batter of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s talent cannot find a place in the Indian ODI team, that says a lot about the problem of plenty. Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak on Saturday (September 26, 2026) indicated that the left-handed opener might have to wait for his opportunity.
“There is so much competition for places in the team, and so many players are performing,” Kotak said. “Jaiswal is one of the best, and whenever he gets an opportunity, he performs. But sometimes, you see, say there are three very good wicketkeepers in a team and only one will play. It is not a case of Jaiswal being treated unfairly. It is part of the game. He should keep working hard and wait for his opportunity.”
