Israel reports 1st West Nile virus case of 2026 in Tel Aviv
Israel has confirmed its first case of West Nile virus for the 2026 season in a Tel Aviv resident. Health and environmental authorities are urging the public to take preventative measures against mosquito bites and stagnant water.

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection are reporting that a Tel Aviv resident has been diagnosed with West Nile fever, the first confirmed case of the disease in Israel in the summer of 2026.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection has instructed the relevant local authority to increase prevention, monitoring, eradication and public awareness efforts.
Prof. Sigal Sadetzky, Head of the Public Health Division at the Ministry of Health: “West Nile fever is a disease transmitted to humans through the bite of mosquitoes that feed on infected birds. It is usually a mild disease without symptoms, in exceptional cases serious symptoms such as encephalitis or meningitis may also appear.”
