This admission provides insight into the tactical mindset of elite athletes and the pressure to balance entertainment value with competitive safety.
Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya admitted that his title fight against Yoel Romero in 2020 was "boring."
Adesanya defeated Romero via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 248 in March 2020, but the fight was significantly criticized by fans for not having much action in it.
It certainly didn't help that the Adesanya vs. Romero fight came right after Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk's five-round classic in the very fight beforehand.
Now, over six years later, Adesanya can fully admit the fight with Romero sucked.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Adesanya fully admitted that his fight against Romero did not live up to the expectations of the fans, nor his own personal expectations of what it could have been.
