Isolated heavy rainfall likely in northern districts of Kerala on August 9

The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for strong winds and isolated heavy rainfall across Kerala and Lakshadweep through Sunday. Authorities have warned the public of potential hazards, including uprooted trees and power line damage, as weather conditions remain volatile.
Why it matters
Timely weather alerts are critical for public safety and disaster management in regions prone to monsoon-related damage.
Overcast skies continued to loom over the Kerala landscape on Saturday, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of the possibility of strong winds till Sunday (August 9).
The IMD has issued an alert stating that strong surface winds with speed occasionally touching 40-50 kmph were likely to prevail over Kerala and the Lakshadweep islands till Sunday. In view of the IMD warning, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) urged the public to be on alert against the possibility of trees being uprooted, snapping branches and overhead power lines.
