Why it matters
Promoting rural sports helps in grassroots talent development and encourages physical fitness in non-urban areas.
The Coimbatore divisional-level competitions of Isha Gramotsavam 2026, a rural sports festival organised by Isha, were held on Monday (August 24) at Kongunadu Arts and Science College in Coimbatore.
Divisional-level competitions were held simultaneously at six locations across Tamil Nadu — Coimbatore, Salem, Vellore, Cuddalore, Madurai and Tirunelveli. In Coimbatore, the competitions were inaugurated by Kavundampalayam MLA Kanimozhi Santhosh and Vasuki, secretary of Kongunadu Arts and Science College.
Thousands of rural sportspersons, who had emerged victorious in the preliminary cluster-level competitions, participated in the event, according to the organisers.
