Several parts of Tiruchi City continue to face irregular drinking water supply, with residents in several localities reporting inadequate pressure and inconsistent supply.
According to residents, several areas, particularly tail-end localities, have been receiving drinking water at irregular intervals over the past few weeks. Palpannai, Kattur, Srirangam, Crawford, Edamalaipatti Pudur, Woraiyur, Kallukuzhi, Khajamalai, Varaganeri, Sethuraman Pillai Colony, and Sangiliandapuram are among the affected areas.
Residents said that even when water is supplied, the pressure is often too low to fill household storage tanks adequately. “The tank hardly gets filled, and the water supply is very inadequate,” said a resident of Palpannai.
Official sources said the city’s daily drinking water requirement is around 170 million litres a day (MLD). The Cauvery and Kollidam rivers have nine major sources which draw groundwater to supply about 130 overhead water tanks across the city.
