Ireland's second red light camera at a railway level-crossing will begin operation in Kerry today.

The GoSafe camera system at Farranfore train-station will be officially turned on at midday.

It will help Garda address speeding and people breaking the warning lights when the level crossing barrier is lowering.

Anyone caught speeding faces a 160 fine and three penalty points, while those who break the barrier lights will be fined 80 and receive three penalty points.

It follows the first-ever level-crossing camera at Merrion Gates in Dublin, which started in January.

Irish Rail says up to four further level-crossing cameras are planned to be rolled out nationwide, including at Minish, Killarney.
