Ireland champions fall

Several reigning county and provincial Gaelic football champions were defeated in recent club championship matches across Ireland. Notable upsets included the exit of All-Ireland holders Daingean Uí Chúis and the defeat of Cargin by Rossa.
Why it matters
Gaelic games are central to Irish cultural identity, and these results represent significant shifts in the competitive landscape of the club season.
A number of county and provincial champions - as well as All-Ireland holders Daingean Uí Chúis - surrendered their titles as the club season continued to heat up around the country.
All-Ireland winners Daingean uí Chúis saw their reign end as they exited the Kerry SFC, losing to Spa 1-17 to 1-11 in their Round 3 clash on Saturday.
The Killarney side were full value for their win, with a late goal from Cian Murphy putting the gloss on things. Spa held a four-point advantage at the break - 0-12 to 1-05 - with Cathal Bambury netting for the now deposed champions.
Daingean uí Chúis started the second half well and were only a point in arrears with over ten minutes left, thanks a Paul Geaney two-pointer, but they couldn't recover.
