Iran says Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until conditions are met, says reports
Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until seven specific conditions from an interim agreement with the U.S. are met. Tehran rejected recent one-sided demands and emphasized that the diplomatic process is at a critical juncture.
Why it matters
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global shipping lane, and its closure poses significant risks to international energy markets and regional stability.
The Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until seven Iranian conditions set out in a June interim agreement with the U.S. are met, Nournews reported Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as saying on Sunday (October 4, 2026), a few days after Tehran received Washington's reply to its diplomatic proposal.
“The Americans, who say something different in the media, have recently put forward proposals through a mediator. But they must understand that the period of dragging out the process and dictating one-sided demands is over," Mr. Qalibaf was quoted as saying.
