IPID arrests Madlanga Commission’s Witness K, confirms another arrest is imminent
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a suspended Ekurhuleni police official and a witness from the Madlanga Commission in connection with a R15 million precious stones theft. Authorities are continuing their investigation and expect to make further arrests related to the case.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi for his alleged involvement in the theft of precious stones worth just under R15 million during a bogus police raid.
Mkhwanazi was arrested in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, on Friday evening.
When asked for comment about being arrested for the third time in a row, Mkhwanazi said his lawyers will update the media.
Dressed in a black coat, Mkhwanazi appeared relaxed and jokingly asked IPID senior investigator Thulani Magagula if he was arresting him again.
Magagula read him his constitutional rights before escorting him into a police vehicle outside a property in Bedfordview.
On Friday afternoon, IPID also arrested Madlanga Commission Witness K at her home in Gauteng.
The woman is an inspector attached to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s (JMPD) VIP Protection Unit and the former girlfriend of suspended Mkhwanazi.
